At The Garden Centre
The children in the Junior classroom have been really enjoying this month’s theme of ‘At the Garden Centre’.
We have the Garden Centre setup in our Aistear area and have been learning all about the story of ‘Enormous Turnip’.
On a nice sunny day, we even planted our own potatoes in the school garden!
Examining Soil in Geography
In Geography, we’ve been examining soil. We brought in soil from our gardens and fields. We found lots of little mini-beasts in our soil. There were also dead plants and even some dead mini-beasts in our soil! These make up the humus layer of soil and act like fertiliser to enrich the soil. Did you know that there are about a MILLION microbes in a teaspoon of soil?! We used petri dishes to show bacteria in the soil.
